On 11 May there was a very interesting debate on legal aid at Westminster Hall. You can watch it here:

Surprisingly most MPs appear to get it ie that cutting legal aid isn't about throwing fat cat gravy licking lawyers off a train but a sure fire method of stopping people of low or moderate means getting proper legal advice.
In considering legal aid what must also be inluded is cost of justice systems. The Government loves to talk up how generous the English legal aid system is, but fails to include a full comparison by reference to what other countries spend on legal aid AND justice systems.
Also Elfyn Llwyd MP is trying to address the absurd and inhumane sentence that is IPP through his Criminal Justice (Amendment) Bill. Unfortunately it is making slow progress.
